Physical Rehabilitation

A variety of physical rehabilitation techniques are used at Healing Hands Wellness & Chiropractic Center.  The following is a description of some of these techniques:

Exercise Rehabilitation

People who suffer from various pains are often encouraged to help their own recovery through exercise and physical therapy, but are seldom given the knowledge and tools needed to accomplish this. At our office, we work with patients to achieve long-lasting pain relief by strengthening areas of the body that are compromised and weak. We have a large selection of tools to use with our patients including such things as balance boards, bands, block, exercise balls and hand weights, just to name a few.  We also use the Synergy Therapeutics System. This is a wall-mounted exercise system that uses the various bands and straps mentioned earlier to strengthen important muscles in the body.

Interferential Current (Electrical Stimulation)

Interferential current therapy is a treatment to aid the relief of pain and the promotion of soft-tissue healing. Tiny electrical impulses are induced into the tissues in the area of the pain. Where these waves intersect below the surface of the skin, the low-frequency stimulation induces the body to secrete endorphins, which are the body's natural pain-killers. Most patients find interferential therapy to be very beneficial and describe the treatment as being relaxing and having a 'pins and needles' sensation. Ligament sprains, muscle strains and spasms often respond well to interferential current therapy.

Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental traction is performed using a table with rollers inside. The patient lays on their back and the rollers will gently move up and down their spine. The traction acts as both a stretching aid and a massage tool to the patient. Intersegmental traction tables help reestablish the normal ranges of the body’s spine. Intersegmental traction tables also help facilitate muscle relaxation and reduce muscle spasms. Consistent use of intersegmental traction has been shown to greatly accelerate the recovery process from a back injury.

Hot/Cold Therapy

Depending on the type and age of an injury, the doctors may apply a hot or cold pack to the injured region. Acute (new) injuries will typically receive cold therapy while chronic (old) injuries typically benefit more from heat. The doctor will evaluate if you could benefit from either hot or cold therapy. Also, patients may be instructed to use either heat or a cold pack at home.
